Brazil’s Maira Mazar earns 1st ONE Championship win, beats Choi Jeong Yun in Singapore

Maira Mazar, 34, of Brazil was one of the winners at “ONE: Inside the Matrix IV.” It was the Brazilian mixed martial artist’s first victory in the Singapore-based martial arts promotion ONE Championship.

Training at Evolve MMA in Singapore, Mazar fought Choi Jeong Yun, 22, of South Korea at “ONE: Inside the Matrix IV,” which featured three MMA matches, one Muay Thai contest and one kickboxing fight. ONE Championship taped the combat sports event at the Singapore Indoor Stadium in Kallang, Singapore before airing it on November 20, 2020.

In the first match of the evening, Mazar and Choi battled it out in an MMA bout at a catch weight of 61.3kg. Justin Brown served as the referee.

Brown put a stop to the catchweight contest after 4 minutes and 26 seconds in the third round. Mazar knocked out Choi via punches.

 

Winning at “ONE: Inside the Matrix IV” improved the professional MMA record of Mazar to 7 wins and 3 losses. It was a redemptive win for her as she was coming out of her unsuccessful promotional debut.

Competing professionally since 2014, Mazar made her ONE Championship debut at “ONE: A New Tomorrow” at the Impact Arena in Bangkok, Thailand on January 10, 2020. She was submitted by Ayaka Miura (三浦彩), 30, of Japan.

Before joining ONE Championship, Mazar competed in Real Fight, BlackHawks Nights, American Warriors Fight, Aspera Fighting Championship, Kunlun Fight, Araca Fight Combat and Gladiator Combat Fight. The second opponent she lost to was “Magnum” Zhang Weili, 31, of China, who is now the reigning UFC Women’s Strawweight Champion.

 

Choi made her ONE Championship debut at “ONE: Inside the Matrix IV.” She now has 2 wins and 1 loss.

Seven countries were represented at “ONE: Inside the Matrix IV” namely Australia, Brazil, China, Italy, Japan, Russia and South Korea. Mazar was one of the two fighters who represented Brazil while Choi was one of the three representatives of South Korea.

Mazar stands 165cm. Choi, who is 174cm tall, trains at The Gym Lab in Geumcheon, Seoul, South Korea.
