South Africa’s Bokang Masunyane earns 2nd ONE Championship win, knocks out Rene Catalan at ‘ONE: Big Bang’ in Singapore

Bokang “Little Giant” Masunyane, 26, of Johannesburg, Gauteng, South Africa was one of the winners at the ONE Championship event “ONE: Big Bang.” It was the South African mixed martial artist’s second win in the Singapore-based martial arts promotion.

Training out of Coach Quan University in Johannesburg, Masunyane solely represented South Africa at “ONE: Big Bang,” which took place at the Singapore Indoor Stadium in Kallang, Singapore on December 4, 2020. On the fight card were four MMA matches and three kickboxing contests.

In the third bout of the evening, Masunyane fought Rene “The Challenger” Catalan, 41, of the Philippines in an MMA fight in the strawweight division. Mohamad Sulaiman served as the referee.

Sulaiman put a stop to the strawweight contest after 37 seconds in the first round. Masunyane knocked out Catalan via head kick.

Masunyane is 155 cm tall. Catalan, who is 2 cm taller, trains out of Catalan Fighting System in Makati City, Metro Manila, Philippines.

Beating Catalan at “ONE: Big Bang” improved the professional MMA record of Masunyane to 7 wins and 0 loss. On the other hand, the Filipino MMA fighter now has 6 wins, 4 losses, 0 draw and 1 No Contest.

A total of 13 countries were represented at “ONE: Big Bang” namely Armenia, Brazil, China, India, Japan, Malaysia, the Netherlands, Russia, South Africa, Turkey, the U.S. and Vietnam. Catalan was one of the two fighters who represented the Philippines.
