Beijing’s Jiaxin Sun is Miss Universe China 2020, crowned in Nanjing, Jiangsu

Jiaxin Sun, 21, was crowned Miss Universe China 2020. She bested 86 other candidates.

Sun hails from Beijing, China. Including her, five candidates represented the city at Miss Universe China 2020.

Hosted by Xue Yungfang, the Miss Universe China 2020 coronation night took place in Nanjing, Jiangsu, China. Sun’s crown called Hollow Valley Orchid is made by the jewelry brand Cardiny’s Jewelry.

As Miss Universe China 2020, Sun also won an expensive dress made of pearls. The total value of her Hollow Valley Orchid crown is worth 5 million yuans ($764,140.40).

Runner-up to Sun was Dan Wu of Shanghai. Yujia Chen of Beijing was second runner-up while Xinyuan Li of Guangdong and Lo Wong of Hong Kong finished in the Top 5.

The competition officially started on December 3, 2020 and prior to the ceremony, the candidates participated in a training camp. The Baijin Hanjue Hotel in Nanjing sponsored the accommodation of the candidates.


Sun is a student at the Capital University of Physical Education and Sports in Beijing. She will be the 19th woman to represent China at Miss Universe.

There are still no official details about the date and venue of Miss Universe 2020. It is expected to take place in the first quarter of 2021.

Miss Universe was established in 1952. China started sending a candidate in 2002 when Zhuo Ling finished second runner-up.

After Zhuo, only three candidates placed at Miss Universe. Luo Zilin was fourth runner-up in 2011 while Jin Ye and Qiu Qiang finished in the Top 16 in 2013 and in 2017, respectively.

This means if Sun wins Miss Universe 2020, she will be the international beauty pageant’s first titleholder from China. Miss Universe China 2019 Rosie Zhu Xin was unplaced.
