Alina Luz Akselrad, 22, has been appointed as Miss Universe Argentina 2020. She hails from Cordoba, Argentina.
The announcement was made by Osmel Sousa, 74, on December 13, 2020. Dubbed the Tsar of Beauty, he has been the director of Miss Argentina since 2019.
Due to the new coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, no national pageant was held. Sousa chose Argentina’s representative to Miss Universe 2020 from three options namely Akselrad, Aldana Masset, 20, and Julieta Garcia, 21.
Masset, Akselrad and Garcia competed at Miss Argentina 2019. The reigning queen Mariana Varela did not place in Miss Universe 2019.
At Miss Argentina 2019, Masset and Akselrad finished in the Top 7. Garcia was runner-up to Varela.
In 2016, Akselrad was Fiesta Provincial del Olivo first princess and competed at Miss Mundo Cordoba where she finished third runner-up. From 2016 to 2018, she reigned as Reina Regional ONG Vaso de Leche and Reina Nacional de la Frutihorticultura and served as the cultural ambassador of Cordoba.
On November 24, 2017, Akselrad was crowned Miss Sudamerica 2017 in Lima, Peru. At the time, she was a sophomore student studying journalism at Colegio Universitario de Periodismo in Cordoba.
In 2018, Akselrad was crowned Miss Tourism Ambassador America in Thailand. Also in Thailand in the same year, she represented Argentina at World Miss Tourism Ambassador where she was unplaced.
The newly crowned Miss Universe Argentina 2020 is a model. She stands 175 cm.
Aside from modelling, Akselrad is also a real estate agent and a presenter. She is of Moroccan descent and she speaks Spanish and English.
In September 2020, Akselrad launched a line of perfumes named after her. The proceeds were donated to nonprofit organizations including Córdoba Capital – Asociación Civil Vaso de Leche and Fundación Córdoba en Acción.
