Juan Jose Acosta-Soto, 20, of Anaheim, Orange County, California, United States has been arrested. The Hispanic man is accused of being involved in the shooting at the Sahara Theatre strip club at 1210 State College Boulevard in Anaheim on October 31, 2020, which injured one customer and two employees.
That day, Acosta-Soto was at the Sahara Theatre with his fellow Anaheim residents Daniel Juvenal Ocamponava, 22, and Edgar Nava-Ayala, 34. The three were physically removed from the club by security because they refused to wear face masks.
After being kicked out from the club, Acosta-Soto, Nava-Ayala and Ocampo rode a red Toyota Camry, left and came back. At around 1:30 a.m. that day, Nava-Ayala fired at the cub while around 30 people were inside the building.
On December 17, 2020, the Anaheim Police Department arrested Acosta-Soto, Nava-Ayala and Ocampo. The three suspects were held at the Anaheim Detention Facility on $500,000 bail each, according to Anaheim.net.
Acosta-Soto was charged with three felony counts of assault with an assault weapon and one felony count of shooting into an occupied building. If convicted on all charges, he could face up to 17 years in prison.
On December 21, 2020, Acosta-Soto, Nava-Ayala and Ocampo pleaded not guilty in a hearing in the jail courtroom in Santa Ana, Orange County. The three Anaheim residents were ordered to return to court for a pretrial hearing in the West Justice Center in Westminster, Orange County on January 4, 2021.
