The Republic of Chad is a landlocked country in Middle Africa. The country is bordered by Libya to the north, Sudan to the east, Niger to the west, Cameroon and Nigeria to the southwest and the Central African Republic to the south.

Chad became a republic on November 28, 1958 and gained its independence from France on August 11, 1960. On September 20, 1960, Chad was admitted to the United Nations.

Idriss Déby, 68, is the incumbent and sixth president of Chad. He assumed office on December 2, 1990 and was reelected on May 20, 2001, on May 3, 2006, on April 25, 2011 and on April 10, 2016.
