Alina Stanislavovna Sanko (Алина Станиславовна Санько), 22, will represent Russia in Miss Universe 2020. It will be the 69th edition of the international beauty pageant formed in 1952.
The Miss Universe 2020 will take place at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Broward County, Florida, United States on May 16, 2021. Including Sanko, there are 69 confirmed candidates as of March 5, 2021.
Sanko hails from Azov, Russia. Formerly known as Azoff or Azak, the town is twinnes with Feodosia, Russia; Aglandija, Cyprus; Pytos-Nestor, Greece; Secanj, Serbia; Courbevoie, France; Bijeljina, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Chillicothe, Ohio, USA.
On April 13, 2019, Sanko was crowned Miss Russia 2019 at Barvikha Luxury Village, Moscow, Russia, besting 49 other candidates. At the time, she was a third-year student of the Moscow State University of Land Management (Государственный университет по землеустройству) in Moscow, where she studied environmental architecture.
Before becoming a beauty queen, Sanko worked as a model for an online catalogue. She is still the reigning Miss Russia since the Russian national pageant did not crown her successor in 2020 due to the new coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
Miss Universe Russia 2020 is 174 cm tall. She loves reading books, poetry, drawing and painting and it is her dream to travel around the world someday, she told Komsomolskaya Pravda before she was crowned Miss Russia 2019.
As Miss Russia 2019, Sanko represented Russia in Miss World 2019 at the ExCeL London in London, England, United Kingdom on December 14, 2019. She finished in the Top 12.
Due to conflicting dates, Sanko was not able to represent Russia in Miss Universe 2019 at Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta, Georgia, USA on December 8, 2019. On March 5, 2021, it was announced that she will represent Russia in Miss Universe 2020.
