David Tyler Mangum, 21, Jon-Mitchell Carter, 21, and Noah Hunter Jones, 21, were arrested on March 6, 2021. They were charged with hazing, according to the Florence County Sheriff’s Office in Florence County, South Carolina, United States.
On the same day, Mangum, Carter and Jones were booked into the Florence County Detention Center in Effingham, Florence County. They were immediately released on $1,000 personal recognizance bonds.
The suspects are students of Francis Marion University in Florence, South Carolina. They were members of the university’s baseball team.
The three FMU baseball players are accused of intentionally engaging in activity on or before February 5, 2021 at a location off campus where the baseball team’s underclass members were struck for the purpose of initiation causing harm to the victims. Several victims were allegedly punched in the face and one victim was left with a broken jaw.
“The alleged actions violate FMU’s long-standing code of student conduct, as well as specific policies governing the behavior of FMU athletes,” FMU vice president for university communication Tucker Mitchell said in a statement obtained by ABC News. “All FMU athletes review those policies with their coaches at the start of each semester and sign a document acknowledging that they understand the policies and the implications of violating them.”
According to Mitchell, Mangum, Carter and Jones were suspended from the FMU baseball team. They were suspended from the university, as well.
Carter stands 6’1″. He hails from Hamer, Dillon County, South Carolina and attended Dillon High School in Dillon, South Carolina.
Jones is 5’11”. He is from Greenville, Pitt County, North Carolina, USA and graduated from D.H. Conley High School in Greenville.
Mangum is 6’3″. He is from Durham, North Carolina and he attended Northern Durham High School in Durham, North Carolina.
