Ruben Warren Williams, 19, of Southwest Miami-Dade, Florida, United States has been arrested. He is facing several charges including second-degree murder, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, child abuse and animal cruelty with intent to injure or kill.
According to authorities, Williams was confronted by his grandfather about his drug use at around 11:15 a.m. on March 6, 2021. The teenager allegedly became upset so he shot his grandfather, 74, his aunt and his cousin Carlton Tillman, 27.
Williams shot Tillman in the living room of the house, according to police. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue later found the victim dead from multiple gunshot wounds on the kitchen floor.
After hearing the gunshots, two other adults hid with their four children in a bedroom upstairs. None of them was injured.
The grandfather and the aunt escaped from the house by jumping from a window on the second floor. They were in critical condition when they were airlifted by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue to Jackson South Medical Center in Kendall, Miami-Dade County, Florida.
Before the rescue, the grandfather was able to ask help from his neighbor Lisa Pelaez. He was limping after being shot in the back and jumping from a second-story window.
Around 11 something, we heard this really loud pound on the door,” Pelaez told Local 10 News. “My husband’s like, ‘What is that?’ He said, ‘I’ve been shot. My grandson shot me. He’s shooting everybody.'”
After leaving the house, Williams shot and injured a neighbor’s barking dog. He also entered a parked black car and put a gun to the head of its driver, who is a woman he did not know.
Held at gunpoint, the woman was forced to drive around for several hours and to give her phone and wedding ring to Williams, she told police. He was arrested on the evening of March 6, 2021.
