Jonathan Nuno Mijangos, 23, of Denver, Colorado, United States has been arrested. He was charged with first-degree murder.
Mijangos was married to Jasmin Cigarroa, who was reported missing to the Denver Police Department on March 10, 2021. Investigators found what are believed to be her remains in a rural area of Adams County, Colorado on March 12, 2021.
Cigarroa was one year older than Mijangos. She was 5’0″ while he is 5’5″.
“Her husband told us that Jasmin left around 7 p.m. with a friend and she never came back,” Cigarroa’s brother Francisco Cigarroa told CBS Denver. “We talked to her friend and she said she texted Jasmin but she never came down from her apartment.”
Jasmin is said to be last seen alive in the area of 28th Avenue and Roslyn Street in Denver. She reportedly has not returned home since going out with friends on the evening of March 8, 2021.
Francisco told The Denver Channel that friends and family set up a search 10:00 a.m. on March 12, 2021 at the Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge, which is located adjacent to Commerce City. He said it was Jasmin’s favorite place to go to when she was stressed.
Mijangos attended Adams City High School in Commerce City, Adams County where he played soccer. From 2015 to 2019, he went to Greenville College, now known as Greenville University, in Greenville, Illinois, USA where he studied marketing.
Jasmin was a student of the University of Utah in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was just months away from earning her master’s degree in accounting.
In 2019, Mijangos and Jasmin had an argument that turned physical. He faced multiple charges related to domestic violence, including strangulation.
However, Jasmin dropped the charges and decided to stay with Mijangos again. Francisco told KDVR that women like his sister are not safe with these toxic guys like Mijangos who can hurt them.
“I am going after him legally,” Francisco said of Mijangos. “I am doing everything I can to get as many years as possible and make sure he doesn’t get out of jail.”
