Colton, California’s Isaiah Jahfaree Lewis accused of shooting Oran Wheaton-Esclovon in Riverside

Isaiah Jahfaree Lewis, 18, of Colton, San Bernardino County, California, United States has been arrested by the Riverside Police Department. He was charged with murder, attempted murder and weapons violations.

Lewis is a member of a local gang, according to police. He is accused of shooting Oran Wheaton-Esclovon, 42, of Riverside, California and another male victim, whose name was not released, on Douglass Avenue in Riverside at around 6:15 p.m. on March 20, 2021.

The two victims were sent to the emergency room of a local hospital that night. The unnamed victim was released from the hospital after receiving treatment for his injuries.

On the other hand, Esclovon was pronounced dead at the hospital. He was neither a gang member not the intended target of the shooting, according to police.

Esclovon has eight children and six grandchildren. The Riverside resident also lived in other parts of California including Menifee, Moreno Valley and Los Angeles and previously lived in Suitland,  Prince George’s County, Maryland, USA and in Beaumont, Jefferson County, Texas, USA.

On April 22, 2021, Riverside Police Department officers arrested Lewis at his apartment on East Santo Antonio Drive in Colton and was booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center in Riverside, according to KTLA. His bond was set at $2 million.

Incorporated on October 11, 1883 and chartered on March 5, 1907, Riverside is the 12th most populous city in California. The city is named for its location beside the Santa Ana River, the largest river entirely within Southern California.

Patricia Lock Dawson is the 18th and incumbent mayor of Riverside. She is the first alumnus of the University of California, Riverside to hold the position.
