Hassani Burleson-Ramsey, 23, of Oakland, Alameda County, California, United States has been arrested by the San Jose Police Department (SJPD). He was charged with multiple counts of felony robbery and misdemeanor vandalism.
Burleson-Ramsey and another individual are the suspects responsible for nine purse snatchings in San Jose, Santa Clara County, California and up to 30 additional robberies in other parts of the San Francisco Bay Area, a region surrounding the San Francisco, San Pablo and Suisun Bay estuaries in Northern California.
All victims are female and members of the Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) community. Burleson-Ramsey and the other suspect are accused of tracking the victims in shopping center parking lots before blocking in the victims’ vehicles, smashing the windows of the vehicles and fleeing the scene with purses and other personal property.
During the investigation of the robberies, the SJPD collaborated with the Hayward Police Department, the Newark Police Department, the Union City Police Department, the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office and the Oakland Police Department. On April 28, 2021, SJPD officers arrested Burleson-Ramsey in Oakland.
Burleson-Ramsey was booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail in San Jose. The other suspect has yet to be identified and arrested.
