He got involved in a large scale fight between patients and staff and was accused of punching a nurse staff member and throwing a fax machine. On January 5, 2021, he was scheduled to attend a bail hearing for his simple assault charge but he refused to leave his jail cell at the Sheriff Al Cannon Detention Center so Charleston County Sheriff’s Office deputies Lindsay Fickett and Brian Houle forcibly removed him from the cell then pepper sprayed and tased him at least six times. Medical staff at the facility tried to save his life but he was pronounced dead later that day. (b) (f)
