Amy Jo Allen, 27, of Hannibal, Missouri, United States has been arrested by the Hannibal Police Department. She was charged with second-degree statutory sodomy, fourth-degree child molestation and sexual contact with a student.
Allen worked as an aide at the Hannibal Middle School on McMasters Avenue in Hannibal. When she was hired, her background checks with the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Missouri Children’s Division all came back clean, according to Hannibal Public Schools superintendent Susan Johnson.
“We are saddened that a District employee may have violated the trust placed in them to interact with our students,” Johnson said in a statement obtained by WGEM. “The Board and its staff place the safety and welfare of District students as its highest priority.”
On May 26, 2021, the Hannibal School District received information suggesting Allen could be inappropriately involved with a student, who was a minor. On the same day, she was placed on a leave of absence and has had no contact with students since.
The Hannibal School District reported the concerns to the Hannibal Police Department and the Division of Family Services Hotline. The 10th Judicial Circuit Court of Marion County issued an arrest warrant for Allen.
On June 2, 2021, Allen was arrested, fired from her Hannibal Middle School job and held in the Marion County Jail in Palmyra, Marion County, Missouri on a 50,000.00 cash only bond, she will be formally arraigned at 8:15 a.m. on June 4, 2021.
