Both from Toronto, Ontario, Canada, Oliver Karafa, 28, of Slovakia and his girlfriend Yun “Lucy” Lu Li, 25, have been arrested. They were both charged with first-degree murder and attempted murder.
Karafa and Li are accused of killing Tyler Pratt, 39, a father of three from Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. On February 28, 2021, Pratt and his pregnant fiancée, 26, were shot while they were inside their home in Hamilton.
According to the Hamilton Police Service, Karafa, Li, Pratt and the other victim were known to each other. After the shooting, Karafa and Li allegedly fled the scene in a Land Rover.
Pratt died while his fiancée, whose name was not released, survived. However, she lost the baby because of her injuries.
“He was very much an entrepreneur, very much family-focused,” Pratt’s mother Jonni Yeomans said of him in an interview with The Daily Beast. “He loved his children so there’s been great loss for all of us but I really feel like he left an amazing legacy and poured so much love into all of us so we’re all really grateful for that.”
On March 1, 2021, Karafa and Li fled Canada and traveled through Slovakia and the Czech Republic before landing in Budapest, Hungary, according to the Hamilton Police Service. On June 12, 2021, the two were arrested in Budapest.
