Sharifa Mangatong Areef Mohammad Omar Akeel, 24, of Sultan Kudarat, Philippines will no longer compete in beauty pageants for unmarried women. She is about to get married with Esmael “Toto” Gaguil Mangudadatu, 53, of Maguindanao, Philippines.
On September 16, 2018, Akeel was crowned Mutya ng Pilipinas-Asia Pacific International 2018 at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Metro Manila, Philippines. Representing the Philippines, she won Miss Asia Pacific International 2018 in the New Performing Arts Theater of Resorts World Manila in Pasay City on October 4, 2018.
That was the last time Akeel competed in an international beauty pageant. Since then, she has been one of the beauty queens Filipinos want to see compete in Binibining Pilipinas, Miss World Philippines, Miss Philippines Earth and Miss Universe Philippines as they want her to represent the Philippines again in an international competition
All major international beauty pageants for unmarried women require candidates to be 18 to 29 years old. This means if Akeel is not getting married, she still has four to five years to compete in the Philippine qualifiers of the Top 6 beauty pageants namely Miss Universe, Miss World, Miss International, Miss Earth, Miss Grand International or Miss Supranational.
Akeel can still compete in beauty pageants for married women in the future but that may no longer be her focus once she is married to Mangudadatu. He is the incumbent representative of Maguindanao’s second district.
Mangudadatu and Akeel’s wedding ceremony will take place at 10:00 a.m. on August 25, 2021 at the Al Nor Hotel and Convention Center in Cotabato City, Philippines. Attendees are required to wear a face mask and a face shield due to the ongoing new coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
Akeel is not the first beauty queen wife of Mangudadatu. In 2019, he married Binibining Muntinlupa 2005 and Bb. Pilipinas 2006 candidate Mylene “Mai” Aguilar Maligaya Mangudadatu.
