Miss Universe Philippines 2020 Rabiya Occeña Mateo, 23, of Iloilo City will crown her successor on September 25, 2021. It will be the second edition of the national beauty pageant that selects the Philippines’ official Miss Universe candidate.
Mateo was crowned at the Cordillera Convention Hall of Baguio Country Club in Baguio City, Philippines on October 23, 2020. Maria Ysabella Roxas Ysmael, 24, of Parañaque City was first runner-up while the respective second, third and fourth runners-up were Michele Theresa Imperial Gumabao, 28, of Quezon City, Pauline Cucharo Amelinckx, 24, of Bohol and Kimberly “Billie” P. Hakenson, 26, of Cavite.
Currently, there are 49 remaining candidates competing for the Miss Universe Philippines 2021 title. This is the most competitive group of beauty pageant candidates I have seen since there are at least 10 women who have the potential and preparedness to win an international beauty pageant title.
There are also at least five candidates in this group who have established a strong fanbase as a beauty queen, a model or an actress. Interestingly, there are newcomers who are performing as impressively as these celebrity contestants if not better.
The reigning Miss Universe 2020 Andrea Meza, 27, of Mexico is a model and a software engineer and I believe her successor, who will be crowned in Eilat, Israel in December 2021, will be of the same caliber if not higher. Having said that, these are the five Miss Universe Philippines 2021 candidates who I believe will make it to the top:
predicted Miss Universe Philippines 2021 4th runner-up
Katrina Jayne Dimaranan, 28, Taguig
A beauty pageant veteran, she can be a very effective coach to aspiring beauty queens. She is still one of the strongest candidates in this batch but I think she has already reached her peak in pageantry. I don’t think she will win the crown but it will be very shocking if she does not land in the Top 5.

Kirsten Danielle Tan Delavin, 22, Masbate
When I learned that she is competing, I thought she is better suited for Miss World because of her sweet features. But I was surprised by her transformation. She does have the fierceness that Miss Universe prefers. Forget about her fanbase; she can be Miss Universe but probably not this year. I hope she competes again next year if does not win the crown this year. I also hope she could turn off the noise both from her fans and bashers from this day until the coronation night and focus solely on the competition.

Maureen Christa Pojas Wroblewitz, 23, Pangasinan
She did not win “Asia’s Next Top Model” Season 5 by luck. If she competes in other international modelling competitions again, I believe she will win again and again. But she is not just a top model. She is also a Miss Universe material. If she competed in 2020, she would have easily won the inaugural competition. Unfortunately, she has too many strong competitions in this batch. While models can be inspirational without speaking, beauty queens have to speak to inspire people. Her communication skills are ready for a beauty pageant but some of her fellow candidates are a little more prepared in this department.

Steffi Rose Pearson Aberasturi, 26, Cebu Province
Aside from her inborn gifts that make her worthy of a crown, she is also blessed with a treasure trove of abundant experience. In short, she knows how to win a beauty pageant more than all of her fellow candidates. She is known as the undefeated queen for winning all of her previous beauty pageants except one where she finished first runner-up. Still, I feel like this could be her second first runner-up finish.

Victoria Velasquez Vincent, 25, Cavite
She has an auspicious name. She is an architect and a heritage conservationist. She is a fresh face in pageantry but she has all the tools and the qualifications to win the fifth Miss Universe crown for the Philippines. She is not a traditional beauty queen who answers questions in a way that fits the traditional beauty pageant mold. She is ready as she is. I believe her familial, educational, economical and social backgrounds make her unique and worthy of a crown. I don’t even want her to undergo question-and-answer training. Her communications skills are perfect in a Miss Universe perspective. She recognizes her privileges and she knows how to utilize them for the benefit of others. Among all the candidates, she arguably has the most wide-ranging social lens. Her travels showed her the beauty and the wounds of the Philippines or humanity as a whole. She is Miss Universe Philippines. She is Miss Universe.
