Ahmed “The Butcher” Amir, 29, is the first ever Egyptian mixed martial artist to win an MMA world championship title. He is currently signed with the BRAVE Combat Federation, which is headquartered in Seef, Bahrain.

History was written when Amir challenged then reigning BRAVE CF Lightweight World Champion Amin “Fierceness” Ayoub, 25, of France in the main event of “BRAVE CF 54” in Konin, Poland on September 25, 2021. After five five-minute rounds, the title bout was left in the hands of the judges.

In the end, the referee raised the hand of Amir, who was declared the winner via unanimous decision. The three judges scored the bout 48-47, all in favor of the Egyptian-Bahraini challenger.

Amir trains at KHK MMA in Bahrain. He has been competing in BRAVE CF since the promotion’s first ever event on September 23, 2016 in Isa Town, Bahrain.

Promoted in association with Galana Exclusive Championship, “BRAVE CF 54” marked Amir’s ninth BRAVE CF fight. With his triumph, he became the first fighter from Egypt to become a world champion in combat sports.

The KHK MMA athlete put on a true wrestling clinic with absolute control of levels and scored takedowns in every single round of the bout. The title fight started very busy with the challenger managing to secure an early takedown.

However, Ayoub is known for his slick grappling skills. Even when working from the bottom, he remained very active in his guard.

When Ayoub tried to lock in an omoplata, he and Amir got back to standing up. The defending champion connected a couple of good strikes but right before the end of the round, he got taken down by his challenger once again.

In the second round, with Ayoub becoming more and more confident in striking, Amir went for another takedown and almost got trapped into a guillotine choke. Free of the submission, the defending champion passed the guard and while they were still scrambling, he managed to regain half and then full guard.

In the third round, Ayoub imposed his European-champion-level kickboxing and denied Amir’s takedowns. At least for most of the round, the challenger scored a takedown with 30 seconds left on the clock.

Coming into the championship rounds, Ayoub denied yet another of Amir’s takedowns and this time managed to reverse the position, only for it to be reversed once again with the challenger gaining the top position and working his ground and pound. The challenger still escaped an arm-lock attempt late in the round and scored another takedown before the belt rang.

The fifth round was a battle fought almost entirely on the ground with a succession of sweeps, reversions and finishing attempts, which included a very unorthodox reverse triangle choke from Ayoub but Amir finished the fight from the top, scoring important points and damaging the defending champion through the last seconds. After the historic win, the new BRAVE CF Lightweight World Champion said, “This is a gift to His Highness Sheikh Khaled bin Hamad Al Khalifa, for his birthday.”

“Thank you very much,” Amir continued. “I’d also like to thank my team at KHK MMA. With a head coach like Eldar Eldarov, everything becomes really easy.”
