  12. On September 4, 2021, a body was found floating in the Illinois River. On September 23, 2021, the coroner of LaSalle County, Illinois confirmed that the body was his. The coroner said his organs had decomposed due to the length of time his body had been submerged in water. His family’s independent pathology investigation found that his jaw may have been sawed out and his brain, eyes, liver and spleen could not be found. I’m only getting ready to lay Jelani to rest but I can’t rest because I don’t know what happened to him.” LaSalle County coroner Richard Ploch ruled his cause of death as drowning, which his mother rejected. On October 26, 2021, she said, “Jelani was an avid simmer and an avid swimmer doesn’t drown himself. Jelani didn’t have depression or mental issues.
