Sarah Ashwell, 47, was found dead at her home in South Street, Wells, Somerset, England, United Kingdom on the afternoon of November 7, 2021. She has been identified as the victim of a suspicious death.
The Major Crime Investigation Team (MCIT) launched a murder investigation. Antanas Jankauskas, 38, of Wookey, Somerset and three other men were arrested on suspicion of murder amid the enquiry, which is headed by Avon and Somerset Police detective superintendent Gary Haskins.
“We’re grateful for the support of the community in coming forward with information but it’s important to say that our work to get justice for Sarah and answers for her family is far from over,” Haskins said. “I’d ask people to continue to support our investigation in any way they can. We would however ask the public not to speculate on this case on social media as this could risk prejudicing the legal process now underway.”
The other three arrested men have been released under investigation although one of them has been recalled to prison over other matters. On November 12, 2021, a fifth man was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender and was later released under investigation.
On November 13, 2021, Jankauskas appeared in the Taunton Magistrates Court in Taunton, England. He was charged with the murder of Ashwell.
When Jankauskas appeared in custody at Taunton Magistrates Court, he spoke through a Lithuanian interpreter to confirm his name and date of birth. He was remanded in custody until November 16, 2021 when he is due to appear at Bristol Crown Court in Bristol, England.
