Malikah Shabazz was one of the six daughters of Malcolm Little, also known as Malcolm X and el-Hajj Malik el-Shabazz, and Betty “Betty X” Sanders Shabazz. Here are 13 more things about Malikah:

  1. Her parents met in 1956 and got married in 1958.
  2. She and her twin sister Malaak Shabazz have four older sisters namely Attallah ShabazzQubilah ShabazzIlyasah Shabazz and Gamilah Lumumba Shabazz, who were born in 1958, 1960, 1962 and 1964, respectively.
  3. Her mother was pregnant with her and Malaak when their father was fatally shot on February 21, 1965 while he was preparing to address the Organization of Afro-American Unity (OAAU) at the Audubon Ballroom in Manhattan, New York City, New York, United States. She and Malaak were born seven months after their father’s death.
  4. In 1998, she gave birth to Bettih-Bahiyah Shabazz.
  5. On February 18, 2011, she was arrested at her home in Mars Hill, North Carolina, USA on several outstanding warrants, including grand larceny, forgery and identity theft.
  6. In March 2011, she was flown from North Carolina to New York City to face felony charges.
  7. In June 2011, she pleaded guilty to stealing the identity of her elderly family friend Khaula Bakr, then 70, in North Carolina to obtain credit cards and make purchases totaling $55,000.
  8. On July 27, 2011, she was sentenced to five years probation.
  9. On January 25, 2017, she and Bettih-Bahiyah were arrested on animal cruelty charges in a Wal-Mart parking lot in La Plata, Charles County, Maryland, USA. She and her daughter allegedly stole a rental truck carrying seven pit bulls in inhumane conditions.
  10. She was a resident of Berlin, New Hampshire, USA when she was arrested on January 25, 2017 while Bettih-Bahiyah was a resident of Stark, New Hampshire.
  11. On January 26, 2017, she and Bettih-Bahiyah were released from jail after posting bond of $2,000 each.
  12. Amid the new coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic in 2021, she and Bettih-Bahiyah shared an apartment in Midwood, Brooklyn, New York City. At around 4:40 p.m. on November 22, 2021, Bettih-Bahiyah found her dead at the apartment.
  13. She died at the age of 56.
