Valeria Maria Ayos Bossa, 27, of Cartagena, Colombia was one of the five Miss Universe 2021 finalists. She was one of the early favorites to win the 70th edition of the international beauty pageant based in New York, United States.

Ayos is an alumna of Jorge Tadeo Lozano University in Cartagena. She was born in Cartagena to a Spanish-Colombian father and a Trinidadian mother.

Miss Earth 2018

On November 3, 2018, Ayos represented Colombia at Miss Earth 2018 and competed against 86 other candidates at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Metro Manila, Philippines. She finished third and was crowned Miss Earth-Water 2018.

It was Nguyen Puong Khanh of Vietnam who won the Miss Earth 2018 crown. Melanie Mader of Austria finished second and was crowned Miss Earth-Air 2018 and Melissa Flores of Mexico finished fourth and was crowned Miss Earth-Fire 2018.

James Deakin hosted the coronation ceremony. The show featured a performance by Brian McKnight.

Miss Universe 2021

On October 18, 2021, Ayos represented Cartagena at Miss Universe Colombia 2021 and competed against 23 other candidates at the Chamorro City Hall in Bogotá, Colombia. She won the title.

Runner-up to Ayos was Maria Alejandra Lopez of Risaralda. The second runner-up was Franselys Santoya of Bolivar.

On December 13, 2021, Ayos represented Colombia at Miss Universe 2021 and competed against 79 other candidates at the Universe Dome in Eilat, Israel. It was the first time Miss Universe was held in the country.

Steve Harvey, 64, hosted the coronation ceremony, which featured performances by Joanna Noëlle “JoJo” Levesque, 30, and Noa Kirel, 20. Carson Kressley, 52, and Cheslie Kryst, 30, served as commentators.

Harnaaz Sandhu, 21, of India was crowned Miss Universe 2021 while Nadia Ferreira, 22, of Paraguay and Lalela Mswane, 24, of South Africa were the respective first and second runners-up. Ayos and Beatrice Luigi Gomez, 26, of the Philippines finished in the Top 5.
