The Republic of Honduras is a country in Central America. The country is bordered bordered by the Caribbean Sea’s Gulf of Honduras to the north, Guatemala to the west, Nicaragua to the southeast, El Salvador to the southwest and the Pacific Ocean at the Gulf of Fonseca to the south.

Honduras declared its independence from Spain on September 15, 1821, from the First Mexican Empire on July 1, 1823 and from the Federal Republic of Central America on November 5, 1838. On December 17, 1945, Honduras was admitted to the United Nations.

Juan Orlando Hernández, 53, is the incumbent and 56th president of Honduras. He assumed office on January 27, 2014 and was reelected on January 27, 2018.
