The Federated States of Micronesia is an island country with four states namely Yap, Chuuk, Pohnpei and Kosrae. Located in Oceania, the states comprise around 607 islands lie northeast of Indonesia and Papua New Guinea, east of Palau and the Philippines, west of Nauru and the Marshall Islands and south of Guam and the Marianas.
On May 10, 1979, Micronesia achieved its independence from the United States and became a republic. On September 17, 1991, Micronesia was admitted to the United Nations.
David W. Panuelo, 57, is the incumbent and ninth president of Micronesia. He assumed office on May 11, 2019.
