Saint Lucia is an island country in the Caribbean in North America. Previously called Iyonola then Hewanorra, the country is located north and northeast of Saint Vincent, northwest of Barbados and south of Martinique.

From 1958 to 1963, St. Lucia was a member of the West Indies Federation. The country gained its independence from the United Kingdom on February 22, 1979 and was admitted to the United Nations on September 18, 1979.

Philip J. Pierre, 66, is the incumbent and ninth prime minister of St. Lucia. He assumed office on July 28, 2021.
