Western Africa is home to several baobab trees, some of which are several centuries old. The region has 16 countries and territories, which are the 15 Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) members and the United Kingdom overseas territory of Saint Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha.

Established on May 28, 1975, the ECOWAS serves as a peacekeeping force in Western Africa. The members of the union are Benin, Burkina Faso, Cape Verde, the Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Ivory Coast, Liberia, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone and Togo.

Afrobeat, Afrobeats, Fuji, Highlife and Mbalax are modern musical genres of Western Africa and its diaspora. Here is the 2021 list of the 16 most handsome living men who are of Western African descent, born in the African region or living in the region:
