Ronald Christopher Martin arrested; Missing Shively, Kentucky teen with autism found in Austin, Texas


The Austin Police Department recently arrested a homeless man named Ronald Christopher Martin Jr., 48, in Austin, Texas, United States. He is facing two felony charges.

Martin has an active warrant for failure to register as a sex offender stemming from an incident in 2017. In 2020, he started living in a tent at the back of a building in Austin.

On December 19, 2021, Kerry Brooks, 14, a boy with autism, went missing near Cane Run Road and Rockford Lane in Shively, Kentucky, USA. After meeting on social media, Martin allegedly picked up Brooks in Kentucky and came back to Austin with the boy.

Despite being aware of Brooks’ age, Martin allegedly solicited nude photos from the boy. At around 9:43 p.m. on December 27, 2021, an Austin Police Department officer saw Martin and the missing Shively teen near a former shoe store and his tent in Austin.


“The child is safe and a suspect has been detained,” the Atlanta Police Department said in a statement obtained by Fox 5 Atlanta. “The child’s family has been notified and plans for reunification are underway.”

On December 29, 2021, Martin was charged with two felonies. His bond was set at $50,000.


Arrangements were made to return Brooks to his family in Shively. Martin was booked into Travis County Jail in Austin.
