Gucci, The North Face hires London trainspotter Francis Bourgeois for fashion collab

Francis Bourgeois, 21, of Harlesden, West London, London, England has been interested in trains since 2004. Recently, high fashion generously rewarded him for his passion for rail transport.

Bourgeois has been hired as the newest face of a fashion collaboration between Gucci and The North Face, which was published by Highsnobiety. The English trainspotter told the streetwear blog that he wants to start his own clothing line and open a train-themed nightclub.

“I want to explore trainspotting as a culture globally and see how it’s appreciated within different areas,” Bourgeois said. “Japan is at the top of the list. They’ve got high-speed trains meandering through mountains and then all of these metros, too.”

“It’s just astonishing how transport networks can cut through such dense areas,” Bourgeois continued. “I’d also love to see what it’s like in America because I know the drivers there give loads of toots even if people aren’t asking for them.”

Bourgeois models a $9,000 puffer and a matching pair of $2,000 trousers in the photos featured by the Gucci x The North Face fashion collaboration. Daniel Hopwood, Cheikh Tidiane Beye and Justina Law were also featured as models in the photos.

Sian O’Flaherty served as the associate creative director of the collaboration while Josh Wilson was the senior art director and Dimitri Hekimian was the creative director. They were joined by Adria Paituvi as the senior producer, Ruhi Parman Amin as the content editor and Luca Banchelli as the senior digital art director.

Founded by Guccio Gucci in 1921, Gucci is based in Florence, Tuscany, Italy. The luxury fashion house is a subsidiary of the French luxury group Kering.

Born in Reggio Emilia Italy, Marco Bizzarri, 59, has been the president and chief executive officer of Gucci since January 2015. In 2020, the company joined the Lion’s Share Fund, which was led by the United Nations Development Programme, to support wildlife conservation.

The North Face

Douglas Tompkins and his wife Susie Tompkins Buell founded The North Face in 1968 in San Francisco, California, United States. In 2000, the outdoor recreation products company was acquired by VF Corporation, an apparel and footwear company based in Denver, Colorado, USA.

In 2020, The North Face’s headquarters relocated from Alameda, California to Denver. Recently, VF Corporation appointed Nicole Otto as global brand president for The North Face effective June 2022.

Francis Bourgeois

Born in London, Bourgeois moved to Frome, Somerset, England in 2007. He is currently studying engineering at the University of Nottingham in Nottinghamshire, East Midlands, England.

In November 2021, Bourgeois quit his job to pursue trainspotting full-time. Amid the new coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, he started making TikTok videos on trainspotting.

“I love the support and encouragement that people give to carry on going and making videos with trains,” Bourgeois told TikTok. “It always warms my heart to hear how my happiness has improved someone’s day and that has to be one of the most wonderful things about the TikTok community.”
