Pasaje, Ecuador’s Michael Morales earns 1st UFC win, beats Trevin Giles at ‘UFC 270’ in Anaheim, California

Michael Morales Hurtado, 22, of Pasaje, El Oro, Ecuador was one of the winners at “UFC 270.” It was the undefeated mixed martial artist’s first victory in the Ultimate Fighting Championship, an MMA promotion based in Las Vegas, Nevada, United States.

Featuring 11 MMA bouts, “UFC 270” was held at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California, USA. In the seventh bout of the evening, Morales fought Trevin “The Problem” Giles, 29, of Houston, Texas, USA in the welterweight division.

Referee Mike Beltran stopped the welterweight contest after 4 minutes and 6 seconds in the first round. He raised the hand of Morales, who won via technical knockout via punches.

Morales, who is 6’3″ tall, made his UFC debut at “UFC 270.” The victory improved his professional MMA record to 13 wins and 0 loss while Giles now has 14 wins and 4 losses.

Fighting professionally since 2017, Morales earned a UFC contract after his unanimous decision victory win against Nikolay Veretennikov, 32, of Astana, Kazakhstan at “Dana White’s Contender Series 2021” Week 4 at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas on September 21, 2021. Prior to this, the Ecuadorian MMA fighter competed in Oro Fighting Championship, Troncal Fighting Championship, Fusion Fighting Championship, Manaba Top Team, Pasaje Combat, Barbarians Fighting League, Extreme MMA and the Ultimate Warrior Challenge.

Both of Morales’s parents are judo black belts. His mother Katty Hurtado, a third dan judo black belt, is an international referee in judo.

Morales is training out of Entram Gym in Tijuana, Mexico where he is currently based. For him, fighting in the UFC is an opportunity of a lifetime.

The Pasaje native is the second Ecuadorian MMA fighter to compete in the UFC following Marlon Vera, 29, who was born in Chrone, Ecuador and is currently based in Irvine, California. A bantamweight fighter, Vera has been competing in the UFC since 2014.
