Keber Martinez, 25, of the Bronx, New York City, New York, United States has been arrested. He was charged with attempted murder, reckless endangerment and criminal possession of a weapon.

On January 25, 2022, Martinez wrote his name in the sign-in book when he arrived at Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx. He complained of asthma, demanded service and was “acting like an a–hole,” the New York Daily News quoted hospital staffers as saying.

It was Martinez’s mother who took him to the hospital. He was having difficulty breathing and was emotionally troubled, according to her.

At around 12:30 p.m., Martinez spotted his fellow patient Ruben Perez, 35, inside the waiting area outside the hospital’s emergency room where they got into a verbal dispute. Martinez complained that Perez was glaring at him before pulling a gun.

Martinez fired four shots, striking Perez once in the left forearm, then fled the scene, leaving his mother behind. Perez was rushed into the emergency room and was expected to survive.

At around 3:30 p.m., Martinez’s sister called 911 to report that he had a gun and was acting erratically. In the evening, he was arrested in Harlem, New York City.
