Wilbert Mora was a police officer in New York City, New York, United States. Here are 10 more things about him:


  1. He grew up in East Harlem, New York City, New York.
  2. He is Amalia Mora‘s son.
  3. He is Wilson Mora and Karina Mora‘s brother. He was the youngest of four children.
  4. He was 6’3″ tall.
  5. In 2001, he and his family emigrated from the Dominican Republic to New York.
  6. In 2018, he earned his bachelor’s degree from John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York City, graduated from the police academy and joined the New York City Police Department (NYPD). He worked out of the department’s 32nd Precinct and had 35 arrests on his record.
  7. At around 6:30 p.m. on January 21, 2022, he and his NYPD partner Jason Rivera, 22, were shot by Lashawn McNeil in McNeil’s apartment in Harlem, New York City. He and Mora responded to the apartment after McNeil’s mother called the police. Rivera was pronounced dead at the scene while he was taken to Harlem Hospital in Harlem where he underwent two surgeries.
  8. On January 25, 2022, he was taken off life support. His heart, liver, pancreas and two kidneys were donated.
  9. He died at the age of 27.
  10. On February 2, 2022, he was posthumously promoted to detective first-grade at his funeral at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in Midtown Manhattan, New York City, New York.
