Yassine Aouich, 31, is the sole representative of Morocco at the 2022 Winter Olympics. Hosted by Beijing, China, the international winter multisport event will be held from February 4-20, 2022.
Born and raised in Ifrane, Morocco, Aouich is fluent in Arabic and French. He attended Universite Al-Akhawayne in Ifrane.
In 2011, Aouich competed at an Fédération Internationale de Ski (FIS) event at Baqueira Beret in Aran Valley and Àneu Valley Pyrenees, Spain. He finished 98th in giant slalom.
Aouich competed at two world championships, which were in Åre, Sweden in 2019 and in Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy in 2021. In December 2021, he competed in giant slalom races in Kolašin, Montenegro.
In January 2022, Aouich finished sixth, seventh and eighth in giant slalom races in a series of events at Malbun in Triesenberg, Liechtenstein. He will compete in men’s alpine skiing at the 2022 Winter Olympics.
In July 2015, Beijing was elected as the host city of the 2022 Winter Olympics at the 128th International Olympic Committee (IOC) Session in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. This marks the first time the Winter Olympics is held in China.
Including Aouich, a total of 2,871 athletes from 91 countries and territories will compete in 109 events in seven sports. The events will be held not only in Beijing but also in other parts of China including Yanqing and Chongli.
Aouich is the eighth athlete to represent Morocco in the Winter Olympics. He is currently based in Nice, France.
