Shree Saini, 25, of Seattle, Washington, United States almost won Miss World 2021. She was the first runner-up of the 70th edition of the international beauty pageant.
The Miss World 2021 coronation night was held at the Coca-Cola Music Hall in San Juan, Puerto Rico on March 16, 2022. The ceremony featured performances by Miss World 2019 Toni Ann Singh, 26, of Jamaica and the Puerto Rico Philharmonic Orchestra.
Singh has the longest Miss World reign. She was not able to crown her successor in 2020 and in 2021 due to the new coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
Peter Andre and Fernando Allende hosted the coronation night. Among the judges were Giselle Laronde, 58, of Trinidad and Tobago, Jacqueline Aguilera, 45, of Venezuela and Vanessa Ponce, 30, of Mexico, who won the title in 1986, 1995 and 2018, respectively.
From 97 candidates, only 40 quarterfinalists were selected to compete during the coronation night. In the end, Karolina Bielawska, 21, of Łódź, Poland was crowned Miss World 2021.
While Saini is first runner-up, Olivia Yacé, 23, of Yamoussoukro, Cote d’Ivoire is second runner-up. Carla Yules, 25, of Surabaya, Indonesia, Karolina Vidales, 24, of Jiquilpan, Mexico and Anna Leitch, 27, of Cookstown, Northern Ireland finished in the Top 6.
Saini was also chosen as the Beauty with a Purpose ambassador. Vidales won the sports event on December 1, 2021 while Yacé won the Top Model competition on December 6, 2021.
Born in Ludhiana, Punjab, India, Saini speaks English, Hindi and Punjabi. She is 5’9″ tall.
A survivor of a congenital heart condition, Saini started having a permanent pacemaker in 2008. After the final year of battery left in her pacemaker in 2022, she will undergo replacement surgery.
On October 2, 2021, Saini was officially appointed as Miss World America 2021. Among the first beauty pageant competitions she won are Miss India USA 2017 and Miss India Worldwide 2018.
