Sunnyvale, California’s Anthony James Phillips arrested 3 years after retiring from teaching

Anthony James Phillips, 61, of Sunnyvale, Santa Clara County, California, United States is a retired teacher. Aside from Sunnyvale, he has lived in other parts of California including Palo Alto, Delhi and Santa Clara.

In 2009, Phillips allegedly sexually assaulted a student at Cupertino Middle School in Sunnyvale. At that time, he was a teacher at that school.

In 2019, Phillips retired from teaching. After retirement, he became a volunteer softball and basketball coach at Fremont High School in Sunnyvale.

On April 11, 2022, Phillips was arrested in connection with the alleged sexual assault of a Cupertino Middle School student in 2009. He was booked into Santa Clara County Jail in San Jose, Santa Clara County and charged with aggravated sexual assault of a child, forcible penetration with a foreign object and forcible penetration with a foreign object upon a child.
