The idea of pitting Tyson “The Gypsy King” Fury, 33, of England against Francis “The Predator” Ngannou, 35, of Cameroon first came from the latter. It was good news for fight fans when the former expressed interest in turning the idea into reality.
Currently based in Las Vegas, Nevada, United States, Ngannou has been reigning as the heavyweight champion of the Ultimate Fighting Championship since March 27, 2021. The Cameroonian mixed martial artist’s UFC contract will end before 2023.
On April 23, 2022, Fury defeated Dillian Whyte, 34, of England via technical knockout after 2 minutes and 59 seconds of Round 6 of 12 at the Wembley Stadium in Wembley, London, England. Ngannou was in the audience and watched Fury and White compete for the World Boxing Council (WBC) and The Ring heavyweight titles.
The victory improved Fury’s professional boxing record to 32 wins, 0 loss and 1 draw. After the fight, he brought Ngannou out from the stands.
Fury confirmed that he was retiring from boxing but he is open to competing in a special rules match, particularly against Ngannou. When asked whether it will be in the UFC octagon or in a boxing ring, Fury said, “This is going to be one very special fight, like never before seen in the history of our sport.”
“We’re not talking about two light guys,” Fury continued. “I’m 270, he’s 270 pounds. It’s going to be an explosive fight when it happens.”
According to Ngannou, his bout against Fury will be “a hybrid fight with a different type of rules.” The reigning UFC Heavyweight Champion added, “MMA gloves in the ring, make something a little different.”

Fury is 6’9″ tall and he has a 216cm reach. Ngannou is 6’4″ tall and he has a 193cm reach.
Ngannou made his professional MMA debut in 2013 and joined the UFC in 2015. He holds a professional MMA record of 17 wins and 3 losses.
