Caroline Joy Schollaert, 26, of Jacksonville, Florida, United States was fatally shot while confronting a thief trying to break into her car outside of her residence in Jacksonville on August 3, 2021. She was a native of Powhatan County, Virginia, USA and a member of the U.S. Coast Guard‘s Helicopter Interdiction Tactical Squadron.
The thief was Tyree Leevon Parker, now 23, of Jacksonville. Schollaert confronted him while she was on the phone with the communications center.

Schollaert held Parker at gunpoint and ordered him to remain until police arrived. However, he neither complied nor surrendered and he decided to fire a weapon several times.
The gun Parker used to fatally shoot Schollaert was stolen from an unlocked vehicle on June 24, 2021. After shooting the U.S. Coast guard member, he was picked up by a silver Ford Edge crossover.
During a pretrial court hearing on July 5, 2022, Parker pleaded guilty to killing Schollaert. He is facing up to life in prison with a mandatory minimum sentence of 25 years
Parker was charged with second-degree murder and armed burglary. Circuit Court Judge Meredith Charbula will sentence him the week of October 4, 2022.
