Dylan John Kesterson, 34, of Portland, Oregon, United States allegedly approached a man, 36, of California, USA along the Eastbank Esplanade in Portland on July 2, 2022. The man was bicycling with his wife and their daughter, 5.
Kesterson allegedly made comments about the family being of Japanese descent before punching the father multiple times on the back left side of his head. The suspect is also accused of lunging forward and hammer fisting the man’s daughter on the top of her head once.
Bystanders quickly intervened and helped police identify Kesterson as a suspect in the attack. He was arrested but was released under supervision on the same day.
The father sought medical care at a hospital while his daughter, who was wearing a bike helmet when she was punched, did not appear to have any injuries. On July 3, 2022, he told police that he suffered post-traumatic headaches and a mild concussion from the attack.
On July 6, 2022, the Portland Police Bureau announced that Kesterson had a warrant out for his arrest because he failed to show up for his court hearing.
