How Pueblo, Colorado’s Malachi Mathias Moon Seals threatened 3 US Congress members

Malachi Mathias Moon Seals, 19, of Pueblo, Colorado, United States is accused of threatening three members of the U.S. Congress between November 2021 and January 2022. He allegedly threatened his victims’ family members, as well.

Moon Seals allegedly sent the three U.S. Congress members threatening messages over the web. He allegedly expressed his desire to assault and murder them with intent to impede, intimidate and interfere with such official while engaged in the performance of official duties and with intent to retaliate against such official on account of the performance of official duties.

A federal grand jury indicted Moon Seals on 12 federal counts for threatening the three U.S. Congress members, according to documents from the US District Court of Colorado, which were released on August 2, 2022. The names of the victims were not released.

In particular, Moon Seals was charged with two counts of influencing or retaliating against a federal official by threat, four counts of influencing or retaliating against federal official by threat to family and six counts of interstate communication of threats.

The first victim received threats from Moon Seals on November 20, 2021 then on January 20, 2022. He sent threatening messages to the second victim on November 21, 2021 and to the third victim in December 2021.

On August 3, 2022, Moon Seals was arrested. He received a personal recognizance bond when he made his first court appearance that day.

As part of the conditions of Moon Seals’ release, he is required to surrender his passport if he has one, check in for supervision in Colorado Springs, Colorado and seek employment. He is also prohibited from possessing a firearm, using alcohol or drugs, communicating with any government official or agency, contacting any victims or witnesses in the case and leaving Colorado without court permission.
