Omar Househ and three other young mixed martial artists represented Jordan at the 2022 International Mixed Martial Arts Federation Youth World Championships. A total of 498 athletes from 41 countries and territories registered to compete in the tournament.
Currently based in Jordan, Househ used to live in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. The 2022 IMMAF Youth World Championships was held at the Jiu Jitsu Arena in Abu Dhabi from August 17-20, 2022.
Househ competed in the 44kg weight class under the male 12- 13-year-olds (Youth C) group. In one of the matches, he defeated Abdurazok Akhadov of Uzbekistan.
In this category, Ryley McGrath O’Toole of England won gold. Yaroslav Poliakov of Ukraine won silver.
Before the tournament, CONAN Daily asked Househ to mention the people who helped him prepare for his fights. He said, “Many thanks to all the people who supported me.”
“First of all, I thank God then my parents, my coaches, Coach Mohammed Kayyali, Coach Ashraf “Al Shaikh Sharif” Shishani, Coach Hazem Kayyali, Coach Zaki Kayyali and my teammates in TK gym,” Househ continued. Zaki Kayyali was also one of the four fighters who represented Jordan at the 2022 IMMAF Youth World Championships.
Based in Amman, Jordan, Mohammed Suhail Kayyali is Zaki and Hazem Kayyali’s father. Ashraf “Al Shaikh Sharif” Shishani has been the head coach of Jordan’s national MMA team since January 2022.
“If an MMA fighter travels to Jordan for the first time, where should they visit first?” CONAN Daily asked Househ. He said, “I would like everyone to come and visit the place where I started my training, TK gym, whenever they visit Jordan.”
When asked who, for him, the greatest MMA fighter of all time is, Househ picked Khabib Nurmagomedov, 33, of Makhachkala, Dagestan, Russia. The Dagestani athlete holds a professional MMA record of 29 wins and 0 loss.
Like many children in Dagestan, Nurmagomedov started wrestling from an early age. When he was 9 years old, his training included wrestling a bear.
