Orem, Utah’s Andrew Walsh accused of exchanging explicit photos with boy

Andrew Walsh, 32, of Orem, Utah County, Utah, United States is a teacher. Since 2016, he has been employed in Alpine School District.

Walsh allegedly solicited nude photos from a boy, 16, online and tried to arrange a meeting with the teenager. The boy’s father later found sexually explicit conversations on the boy’s phone, one of which involved Walsh.

On July 24, 2022, the boy’s father contacted the Orem Police Department. On August 15, 2022, officers from the department interviewed Walsh, who admitted to exchanging nude images with the boy despite knowing the boy’s age.

On August 22, 2022, Walsh was arrested and booked into the Utah County Jail in Spanish Fork, Utah County. He was charged with sexual exploitation of a minor and enticing a minor by internet or text.

The teacher from Orem is being held without bail as he has easy access to children with whom he holds a position of trust. Alpine School District has placed him on administrative leave pending an investigation.

The Orem Police Department reached out to the Utah Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) task force, which agreed to accept the case. The task force can be contacted at utahicac@utah.gov or 801-281-1211.

Orem, which was named for Walter C. Orem, is the fifth largest city in Utah. The city is renowned for the Timpanogos Storytelling Festival, which started in 1989.

“Dancing with the Stars” judge Julianne Hough, 34, and former Montreal Alouettes player Ben Cahoon, 50, were both born in Orem. David Young is the incumbent mayor of the city.
