Moses Ingram, 28, faced racism in the “Star Wars” fandom when she was introduced as Reva Sevander / The Third Sister in “Obi-Wan Kenobi“. Ewan McGregor, 51, was one of the people who came to her defense.
“Moses Ingram being protected makes me feel protected,” John Boyega, 30, said in a recent interview with John Fugelsang, 52. “Do you understand what I’m saying? It makes me feel like ‘Okay, cool. I am not the elephant in the room’ because when I started, it wasn’t really a conversation you could bring up.”
“You know how they went through it,” Boyega continued. “It was kind of like ‘Let’s just be silent’. It wasn’t a conversation you could bring up but now, to see how blatant it is, to see Ewan McGregor come and support, for me, (it) fulfills my time where I didn’t get the support.”
“It doesn’t make me feel bitter at all,” Boyega added. “It makes me feel like sometimes you are that guy and my dad taught me that. Sometimes, you’re not the guy to get the blessing and sometimes you are Moses, you know, you lead the people to the mountain, but you see the destination.”
In 2020, Ingram played Jolene in “The Queen’s Gambit“. In 2021, she played Audre Robinson in “The Same Storm” and Lady Macduff in “The Tragedy of Macbeth“.
McGregor played Obi-Wan Kenobi in “Star Wars” films in 1999, 2002 and 2005. He reprised the role in “Obi-Wan Kenobi”, a miniseries that premiered on Disney+ on May 27, 2022.
Boyega first played Finn in the 2015 film “Star Wars: The Force Awakens“. He reprised the role in “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” in 2017 and in “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” in 2019.
In 2022, Boyega stars in at least three films. He plays Lance Corporal Brian Brown-Easley in “Breaking“, which will premiere in the United States on August 26, 2022.
With Viola Davis as General Nanisca, Boyega stars in “The Woman King” as King Ghezo. The film will hit theaters in the U.S. on September 16, 2022.
Before 2023, Netflix will release “They Cloned Tyrone,” a science fiction comedy about three lifelong friends who find themselves at the center of a mind-bending conspiracy. The characters are played by Boyega, Jamie Foxx, 54, and Teyonah Parris, 34.
