Taurean Waller-Prince is a professional basketball player born in San Marcos, Texas, United States to Anthony Prince and Tamiyko Prince. He is 6’8″ tall.

A small forward, Taurean made his National Basketball Association debut in 2016. Here are 13 more things about him:


  1. He played basketball at Earl Warren High School in San Antonio, Texas.
  2. He is Catina Prince‘s older brother. Their parents divorced when they were young. After the divorce, he and Catina lived in a two-bedroom apartment in San Antonio with their mother who worked as an aging disability officer. Meanwhile, his father was in and out of jail.
  3. In 2006, he moved from his mother’s apartment in San Antonio to live with his father in San Angelo, Texas. He and his father became homeless and the Salvation Army provided shelter for them. When he was entering the eighth grade, his father was caught writing bad checks. His friend Bowdy Thompson‘s mother Candina Thompson took him in.
  4. In 2008, he returned to San Antonio to live with his mother and start high school. 
  5. In 2010, his mother was pregnant with her long-term boyfriend, who was fatally shot before his half-brother Derrick Prince was born. While attending high school and playing basketball, he helped raise Derrick.
  6. In July 2015, he helped the U.S. men’s national basketball team with the bronze medal at the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto, Canada.
  7. On June 23, 2016, he was selected by the Utah Jazz with the 12th overall pick in the 2016 NBA draft. On July 7, 2016, his rights were traded to the Atlanta Hawks.
  8. On July 6, 2019, he was traded to the Brooklyn Nets. On October 21, 2019, he signed a two-year $29 million extension with the Brooklyn Nets.
  9. On January 14, 2021, he was traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers.
  10. On April 27, 2021, he underwent a successful left ankle arthroscopic surgery after missing three games with left ankle soreness.
  11. On August 3, 2021, he was traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves.
