Did Port Orange, Florida’s Hellmuth Kolb try to buy a girl for $100,000 at a Winn-Dixie?


Hellmuth Kolb, 85, of Port Orange, Volusia County, Florida, United States is a registered sex offender. On September 28, 2018, he approached Tracy Nigh who was sitting on a bench with her daughter, then 8, inside a Walmart in Port Orange and asked the mother several times if she would take money in exchange for her daughter.

“The first amount was $100,000,” Click Orlando quoted Nigh as saying. “The second amount was $150,000 and then the final amount was $200,000. I then said ‘No, we have to go.'”


As Nigh and her daughter were leaving, Kolb grabbed the girl’s arm, tried to pull her in toward him and kissed her wrist. The mother pulled the girl back, notified Walmart security and left the store.

Kolb was arrested and charged with simple battery and false imprisonment. On September 29, 2018, he was booked into the Volusia County Branch Jail in Daytona Beach.

The Port Orange man was charged with false imprisonment and battery. In August 2019, he pleaded no contest to the charges and was sentenced to five years of probation.


On August 16, 2022, Kolb approached Lauren Benning who was with her daughter, 8, at a Winn-Dixie in Port Orange. He said he wanted to make a deal with the woman and would give her $100,000 for her daughter.

Kolb was arrested and charged with violating his probation. On August 25, 2022, the octogenarian was booked into the Volusia County Branch Jail.
