Khamzat “Borz” Chimaev (Хамзат Чимаев), 28, of Sweden, Stockholm was one of the winners at “UFC 279“. It marked the undefeated Chechen-Swedish mixed martial artist’s sixth consecutive win in the Ultimate Fighting Championship.
Featuring 13 bouts, “UFC 279” was held at the T-Mobile Arena in Paradise, Clark County, Nevada, United States on September 10, 2022. In the co-main event of the evening, Chimaev fought Kevin “Trailblazer” Holland, 29, of Fort Worth, Texas, USA at a catch weight of 180 pounds.
Referee Herb Dean stopped the bout after 2 minutes and 13 seconds in the first round. Chimaev submitted Holland via Brabo choke.
The victory improved Chimaev’s professional MMA record to 12 wins and 0 loss. On the other hand, Holland now has 23 wins, 8 losses and 1 No Contest.
A total of eight countries were represented at “UFC 279” namely Brazil, Canada, China, Mexico, Moldova, Russia, Sweden and the U.S. Sweden was represented by Chimaev and Anton Turkalj.
“UFC 279” marked Chimaev’s second MMA bout in Nevada. It was also the fourth time he has absorbed zero strikes in a UFC fight.
Born in Chechnya, Russia, Chimaev moved to Sweden in 2011 as an asylum seeker. On May 26, 2018, he made his professional MMA debut at “IRFA 14” in Uppsala, Sweden where knocked out Gard “Ragnarok” Olve Sagen of Norway.
From November 2018 to October 2019, Chimaev won four BRAVE Combat Federation fights. He defeated Marko Kisič of Austria at “BRAVE CF 18” in Bahrain, Sidney “The All-American Kid” Wheeler of the United States at “BRAVE CF 20” in India, Ikram Aliskerov of Russia at “BRAVE CF 23” in Jordan and Mzwandile “Shakebone” Hlongwa of South Africa at “BRAVE CF 27” in the United Arab Emirates.
When Chimaev made his UFC debut at “UFC on ESPN 13” on July 16, 2020 on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi, UAE, he submitted John “The Welsh Wrecking Machine” Phillips of Wales via D’Arce choke. The Chechen-Swedish MMA fighter knocked out Rhys “Skeletor” McKee of Northern Ireland via punches at “UFC on ESPN 14” on Yas Island on July 26, 2020, knocked out Gerald Meerschaert of the U.S. at “UFC Fight Night 178” in Enterprise, submitted Jingliang Li of China at “UFC 267” on Yas Island and defeated Gilbert Burns of Brazil via unanimous decision at “UFC 273” in Jacksonville, Florida, USA.
