Jason R. Stanley, 46, of Boise, Ada County, Idaho, United States previously lived in Yakima, Yakima County, Washington, USA and Selah, Yakima County. On December 8, 2018, he entered the Rec Room Tavern in Lynnwood, Snohomish County, Washington to attend Martyr’s Day, an annual white supremacist gathering honoring Robert Jay Mathews.

Stanley was with members of two related white supremacist groups including Jason DeSimas, 46, of Tacoma, Pierce County, Washington, Randy Smith, 40, of Eugene, Lane County, Oregon, USA and Daniel Delbert Dorson, 26, of Corvallis, Benton County, Oregon. Stanley wore clothing and patches indicating his group membership and repeatedly gave Nazi salutes inside the bar.

The disc jockey at the bar, who is black and male, objected to the white supremacist group members manipulating his DJ equipment without his permission. Stanley, DeSimas, Smith and Dorson found it disrespectful so they punched, kicked and stomped on the DJ and called the black man racial slurs.

While trying to intervene, two bystanders were assaulted by members of the white supremacist groups. Both bystanders sustained injuries while the DJ suffered bodily injuries.

Unsealed on December 18, 2020, a seven-count indictment charged Stanley, DeSimas, Smith and Dorson, each aiding and abetting one another, with punching and kicking the DJ while making derogatory comments about the black man’s actual and perceived race. The indictment also charged the four suspects with assaulting the two bystanders who intervened and with making false statements to the Federal Bureau of Investigation during the investigation.
