Marcus Lampson of College Hill, Cincinnati, Hamilton County, Ohio, United States was fatally shot on September 29, 2015. He was 30.

Lampson was a self-described rapper. He had several tattoos including the word “Nati”.

It is unclear whether Lampson and William Markel Love, now 28, of North Fairmount, Cincinnati knew each other. In 2014, the latter was sent to prison for trafficking heroin.

On the evening of September 28, 2015, Lampson and a friend ate out after going to a boxing gym. At around 1:30 a.m. on September 29, 2015, they were walking home when a Ford Focus pulled up beside them.

Lampson was wearing a blue Cincinnati baseball cap and a carrying a duffel bag. There was nothing in the bag but a pair of Everlast boxing gloves.

Two occupants of the Ford Focus asked what was in the duffel bag Lampson was carrying. Love was allegedly one of the occupants of the car.

Ignoring the question, Lampson and his friend started walking faster. That was when Love and his companion ordered Lampson and Lampson’s companion at gunpoint to lie face down on the ground.

After stealing Lampson’s bag, Love allegedly fired his .22-caliber gun. Lampson was shot in the neck, in the torso and in the aorta and was pronounced dead at scene.

The shooting took place in the driveway of an apartment complex near Lampson’s resident. His friend was spared that night.

The suspects fled the scene and tossed Lampson’s boxing gloves from their car just a few blocks from where the victim was fatally shot. Authorities were not able to identify the suspects and the case went cold.

On August 4, 2019, Love was arrested and charged with a fifth-degree felony of animal cruelty. He was accused of fatally stabbing his girlfriend’s dog after a fight with her.

Love was held on a $10,000 bond and was sentenced to probation. Based on scene evidence and witness statement, he was later identified as the suspect in the fatal shooting of Lampson.

On November 10, 2022, the Homicide Cold Case Unit of the Cincinnati Police Department arrested Love in Elizabethtown, Hardin County, Kentucky, USA. On November 11, 2022, he was charged with murder.

Shortly before the arrest, Love had a meltdown at The Christ Hospital in Cincinnati. He was arrested and he took a plea deal for disorderly conduct.
