The Underground Battle Mixed Martial Arts Championship (UGB MMA) event “Fun Fight 12” was held at the Metrotent Convention Center of the Metrowalk Commercial Complex in Pasig City, Metro Manila, Philippines from November 13-14, 2022. It was both a combat sports festival and a fundraising event.
“Fun Fight 12“
As a combat sports festival, “Fun Fight 12” featured mixed martial arts, boxing, Muay Thai, boxing, no-gi Brazilian jiujitsu, bare knuckle karate and UGB MMA’s signature competition Juego Todo. A fusion of MMA and arnis, Juego Todo is a Filipino hybrid martial art also weaponized cage fighting.
A total of 48 bouts set the UGB MMA cage on fire at “Fun Fight 12”. In line with the promotion’s mission to beat up poverty, the sold-out event raised funds to dig a deep-water well for the Aetas of Bamban, Tarlac, Philippines.
The Aetas of Bamban
Some members of Bamban’s Aeta community attended “Fun Fight 12”. They were given a special space in the venue where they were able to watch the fights up close.
At one point during the event, the Aeta guests performed a cultural dance inside the UGB MMA cage. Right after the performance, UGB MMA founder Ferdinand Munsayac joined them in the cage to hand them a check of 100,000 pesos ($1745).
Miyabi
“Fun Fight 12” main round girl Maria “Miyabi” Ozawa Ozawa joined the UGB MMA founder inside the cage when the donation was given to the Aeta visitors. Touched by the story of the recipients, she was visibly emotional and was so speechless that she was not able to give a message when she was handed the microphone.
Originally from Japan, Ozawa has been based in the Philippines since 2019. “Fun Fight 12” marked the second time for her to experience being a round girl in a combat sports event.
Mugen
Mark “Mugen” Striegl entered the cage at “Fun Fight 12” this time as a ring announcer. He also hosted the preliminary events leading up to the fight night.
Born in Japan to an American father and a Filipino mother, Striegl is based in Baguio City, Philippines. He is one of the only two Filipino MMA fighters who competed in both ONE Championship and the Ultimate Fighting Championship, the other one being Brandon “The Truth” Vera.
