Lee Walker, 41, of Santa Ana, Orange County, California, United States drove a black Chevrolet truck on West Bay Street in Costa Mesa, Orange County on the evening of November 24, 2022. It was one of the two vehicles that stopped in the street that evening.
Walker allegedly had an exchange of words with the people in the other vehicle before shooting them multiple times. A total of five people were shot.
The five victims were transported to nearby hospitals. Two of them were transported to a trauma center hospital including Lucas Rivera-Velasco, 30, of Costa Mesa, who was pronounced dead in the hospital.
Three of the victims who survived are in stable condition and are expected to recover from their injuries. The other one is in critical condition.
After the shooting, Walker allegedly fled in his Chevrolet truck. On the morning of November 25, 2022, he surrendered to Costa Mesa Police Department officers and was arrested.
According to the Costa Mesa Police Department, the shooting was not gang-related. Detectives believe it was an isolated incident, which has stemmed from a minor traffic collision.
Walker’s mugshot has yet to be released. The names of the other four victims were not made public.

My wife and I stayed at the motel next to the Arco on West Bay Street. Seemed like a peaceful neighborhood with only a few vagrants walking around. I would stay there again since it is cheap and clean. Just a freak occurrence, that’s all.
