Janine Wetherbee, 32, of Waxhaw, Union County, North Carolina, United States is in a romantic relationship with Aaron Jones, 24, of Sylvester, Worth County, Georgia, USA. The latter is a convicted sex offender.

Jones stands 6’0″ tall and weighs 175 pounds. In May 2017, he was convicted of child molestation in Georgia.

In October 2022, Jones allegedly cut off his satellite-based ankle monitor and fled from Worth County while he was on parole. While he was hiding in Union County, Wetherbee allegedly provided him with food, clothing and money.

On November 25, 2022, Union County Sheriff’s Office deputies spotted Jones in Waxhaw with Wetherbee. When he tried to run away, a resident slowed him down by grabbing his jacket.

“Run, Baby, run!” Wetherbee encouraged Jones as he fled from the deputies. Both Wetherbee and Jones were arrested and transported to the Union County Jail in Monroe, Union County.

Wetherbee, who is in custody under a $50,000 secured bond, was charged with felony harboring a fugitive. Jones is being held under a $250,000 secured bond for the parole violation out of Georgia.

Waxhaw’s town government was incorporated in 1889. The town is in North Carolina’s Piedmont region, which is a wooded area with rolling hills.

In 1937, the Union County Public Library system branch in Waxhaw was founded. Professional stock car racing driver Joel Stowe, 67, soccer player Daniel Harvey, 40, and football quarterback Austin Kendall, 24, were all born in Waxhaw.
