Antonio Marques Mitchell, 25, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma County, Oklahoma, United States may spend a maximum of eight years in prison. On December 30, 2021, he collided with another vehicle at an intersection while he was driving in Newcastle, McClain County, Oklahoma.
After being asked for proof of insurance, Mitchell fled the scene of the collision. A witness told a 911 operator that he was smoking marijuana.
Minutes later, Mitchell swerved into oncoming traffic and collided with a second car. Both his own passenger and the driver of the second car died at the scene.
A sample of Mitchell’s blood tested positive for a combination of marijuana, amphetamine and alcohol. He was not arrested until December 19, 2022.
On December 20, 2022, a federal grand jury returned an indictment charging Mitchell with two counts of involuntary manslaughter. On December 22, 2022, he appeared for his arraignment and a detention hearing before U.S. Magistrate Judge Amanda Maxfield Green, who ordered him released on conditions pending further proceedings in the case.
